Cumberland Crossing by OceanView is the latest development to provide contemporary New England cottage living to Maine’s senior community. A sister project to the OceanView at Falmouth retirement community, Cumberland Crossing will be located in Cumberland.

A total of 52 cottages will be built to accommodate active retirees who wish to downsize and enjoy a maintenance-free home. Each cottage will feature a fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, a great room with a gas fireplace, a four-season sunroom, a laundry room, and an attached garage. Two different floorplans will be available, each with underlying universal design concepts that are sensitive to the ability for the homeowner to age in place and to support ease of movement and independence. Features include easily accessible front entries, single-floor living, walk-in showers, and open-concept plans with wide doorways and hallways. This design approach allows seniors to stay in their homes long-term, with access to a village-like community within an attractive landscape. Owners can personalize their cottage with granite countertops, stainless-steel appliances, and hardwood flooring; additional customization options include a loft with its own bedroom and bathroom for visiting family, a two-car garage, a solar hot-water heater, and a solar generator.

The 37-acre property has access to natural gas and public sewer and water. The cottages will be equipped with generators and grid-tied solar power. About three quarters of the property will remain open space to allow for walking trails and connectivity with nature. Residents will also benefit from a community building and swimming pool.

Construction will take place in phases over three years, with an anticipated completion date of 2021.
